Care for teeth and gums

Dental exams check your teeth, gums, and surrounding tissues. Routine cleanings remove buildup around and between teeth.

Whether you’re due for a checkup or returning after time away, you’re welcome here. We care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Freydell Hays and our team assess your gum health before recommending a cleaning. We’ll explain what we find, answer your questions, and talk through next steps.

Choosing your cleaning

Routine cleanings are generally for patients without periodontal (gum) disease, which affects the gums and structures supporting your teeth.

We review X-rays, tartar between teeth and on root surfaces, bone levels, pocket depths around your teeth, and inflammation. Your home care, health conditions, and medications also guide our recommendation.

Treating gum disease

Root-surface tartar, bone loss, deeper pockets, and inflamed gums may point to periodontal disease. When needed, scaling and root planing (SRP) removes buildup from root surfaces.

Ongoing gum care

After SRP, periodontal maintenance is generally recommended every three to four months. It aims to manage disease, protect the structures supporting your teeth, and reduce the risk of disease worsening or returning.

If maintenance cannot adequately manage severe disease, we may refer you to a periodontist, a gum disease specialist.
