Family Dentistry

At Summit Dental Care, NamThien Vu, DDS believes in offering dental care for the entire family. You are never too young or too old to visit the dentist.

Dental Exams and Dental Cleanings

As part of your dental exams, you'll receive a professional cleaning. This takes care of any plaque or tartar that might have built up on teeth during the last six months to one year. However, if these deposits are not removed by brushing and flossing at home, they can quickly turn into cavities in only a few weeks. That's why we recommend coming in for a deep cleaning every six months to one year, depending on your specific situation.

Dentistry for Kids

We believe in bringing in your kids from the time their first tooth erupts. Dental care and good oral hygiene is important from the start. Once your child starts developing their first tooth, schedule an appointment with us so we can check out the health of their mouth and they can begin getting used to coming to the dentist. We provide a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.

Oral Cancer Screening

An oral cancer screening happens during your regular dental exam. The dentist checks your neck, head, mouth, lips, teeth, and gums for any discolorations, lumps, bumps, or anything out of the ordinary. Early detection of oral cancer is important.

Periodontal Care

Gum disease is serious. In its early stages it can be corrected and prevented, by oral exams and scaling and root planing. However, when gum disease becomes advanced, is it not curable, only treatable. It is important to regularly brush and floss your teeth in order to keep bacteria and decay away from your teeth and gums.

Mouthguards and Nightguards

For those who grind and clench their teeth at night, this can cause damage and chipping to your teeth. If you wake up in the mornings with headaches, jaw, or ear pain, you could be suffering from bruxism (clenching of the jaw) while you sleep. Summit Dental Care can create a customized mouthguard for you to wear while you sleep to protect both your teeth and your jaw.

Sports Guards

If you or your child play sports, it is important to protect your mouth and your teeth. We can customize a sports guard for you to wear while you play sports to prevent unwanted tooth loss and damage.

TMJ

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a hinge that connects the jaw to the skull at the temporal bones, and this joint allows you to move your jaw from side to side and up and down, allowing you to yawn, chew, and talk. However, when it is misaligned, you might experience extreme jaw pain, headaches, and sinus or ear infections. We can help treat your TMJ. Also, check out our botox treatment for TMJ.

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry is all about keeping your mouth and teeth healthy and fully functioning.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium post that we surgically embed into the jawbone. The implant serves as the root component of a prosthetic tooth. Once the implant is in place, it will fuse to the bone during the process of osseointegration. Osseointegration allows the implant to support a restoration against the strongest forces of your bite. For this reason, dental implants are widely considered to be the next best thing to your natural teeth.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that improves the structure and cosmetics of a damaged or decayed tooth. During the procedure, your tooth must be completely reshaped to accommodate the shape of the crown. Once the tooth is reshaped, we will permanently bond the crown to the enamel using a special adhesive. Many crowns are fabricated these days with porcelain, due to its unmatched aesthetics.

Dentures

A complete denture is supported by the gum tissues and underlying bone. To receive a complete denture, we must remove any remaining teeth, and take an impression of your gums. Our technicians will use this impression to fabricate your final restoration. In the meantime, we may give you a temporary prosthesis.

Dental Fillings and Other Restorative Treatments

Repairing a damaged tooth can save it and avoid or delay extraction. Various dental treatment options are available to repair a decayed tooth or cavities, one of them being filling. We also provide inlays and onlays. Providing a dental filling before a cavity can worsen into something that requires an implant, crown, extraction, or root canal. We can, though, provide these for you as well, should the case require it.

Tooth Extraction

There are two types of tooth extractions: simple and surgical. We perform a simple extraction on a tooth that has already erupted above the gumline. We perform a surgical extraction on a tooth that has become impacted, or has yet to erupt, such as wisdom teeth. Extraction may be necessary to prevent the spread of infection and other complications.

Bone Grafting

Sometimes a bone graft may be needed before getting dental implants. This procedure can be necessary if you do not have enough bone to support a dental implant.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are ideal for areas of decay too large for a filling, but not large enough to require the placement of a dental crown. The restoration is considered an inlay if it is placed within the occlusal (bite) surface of a tooth. The restoration is considered an onlay if it extends beyond one or more of the occlusal cusps.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the appearance of the teeth and gums. We want to help you have a healthy and beautiful mouth.

Dental Bonding

Tooth bonding is a relatively easy procedure that doesn’t require the use of local anesthetic, which is desirable for many with only minor cracks, chips, or discoloration in their tooth.

Teeth Whitening

If you want your teeth whiter and brighter, we provide in-office teeth whitening treatments. We can whiten your teeth by several shades.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

If you would like your teeth straightened, but don’t want to have to wear metal braces, Invisalign provides an alternative. Invisalign clear aligner trays are nearly unnoticeable, and treatment is generally shorter than that of traditional orthodontia methods.

Dental Veneers

If you have chipped, cracked, or damaged teeth, we can place dental veneers to create beautiful and symmetric teeth once again.

Retainers

Most people think orthodontic treatment is over after they get their braces off or finish their series of aligner trays. However, keeping your teeth in their proper position is just as important as moving them there. For this reason, the use of a retainer after your treatment is complete is crucial.

Cosmetic Botox Injections

If you have an interest in anti-aging treatments, then you have likely heard of Botox injections. At Summit Dental Care, we typically recommend cosmetic Botox treatment to help our patients maintain a more youthful facial appearance. We may also recommend it to address the painful symptoms associated with TMJ disorders.

Sedation Dentistry

We offer sedation to our patients to keep them relaxed and calm as needed during dental procedures. These tend to be more invasive procedures, so by administering the appropriate sedation, we are able to relieve any stress or pain you might experience.

Minimal Sedation

Minimal sedation will help you to relax, but you will be awake. Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is delivered with oxygen via a mask that covers the nose. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly and is the only form of sedation where your dentist will let you drive your car home afterward.

Moderate Sedation

Also known as conscious sedation, you will probably not remember much, if anything, of the procedure. This is usually given as a pill from the same drug family as Valium. It will make you feel drowsy but you will be fully awake through the procedure.

Deep Sedation

A larger dose of the pill used for moderate sedation may be used in deep sedation. However, it is likely to be administered through a vein because it takes effect more quickly this way, and it is easier for the dentist to control.

General Anesthesia

Medications will make you unconscious and you will not wake up until the effects of the medication have worn off.

As well as receiving sedation, you will also be given pain-numbing medication (local anesthetic) to the area in the mouth that the dentist is working on.
